Week Beginning August 12th 2013
From Monday August 12th to Friday August 16th a team of volunteers aged from 6 to 70+ gave the interior of Shilbottle Community Hall a face lift. After three years of use, the hall had picked up a few knocks and scrapes, but after five days of painting and cleaning it looks fantastic. The Youth Room was decorated by Sophie, William, Rhiannon, Taylor and Declan who also did a great job cleaning up and rearranging the furniture. A big thank you to all those who came along to help.
Friday July 5th 2013
Shilbottle Community Hall & Shilbottle First School‘s Joint Ceilidh & BBQ
Shilbottle Community Hall and Shilbottle First School held a joint Ceilidh and BBQ at the hall which also saw a group of the children from the school demonstrate the clog dancing they have been learning. A large number of people came along and had a fantastic time dancing to Nathan Armstrong and friends and eating burgers in the glorious sunshine. All profits were shared between Hall and School funds.
Thank you to everyone who came along ~ we hope to organise a similar event in the near future.
Weekend of October 12th – 14th 2012
Durham University Canoeists Club
The Canoeists Club from Durham University used the hall as their base for a weekend introducing the Fresher Students to canoeing in Northumberland. The hall was “home” for the weekend providing a place to sleep, eat and relax after spending the day on the water.
A great success for all concerned and an event we hope will be repeated in the future.
Friday September 28th 2012 ~ MacMillan Coffee Morning
Sheila Huggins organised a “Big Coffee Morning” to join with National World’s Biggest Coffee Morning event raising money for MacMillan nurses. Many people came along to buy cakes, drink tea and coffee and to catch up with friends and a total of £205 was raised. Thank you all who supported this event.
Saturday September 8th 2012 ~ Autumn Fayre
We had a good variety of stalls from all areas of the community and taster sessions from the Over 50s Keep Fit class, Spanish Conversation class and Avril Huntly’s “Sing with Me” group. Ellie Hamblett, the 2012 Shilbottle’s Got Talent Winner, expertly sang three songs to entertain the crowd.
A grand total of £472 was raised for Hall Funds.
Saturday May 12th 2012 ~ Chocolate Tasting!
Lynn Oxley, chocolatier from Oxley’s of Morpeth, gave a fabulous demonstration of how to make chocolates, allowing the ladies to taste chocolate at various stages of preparation. A great morning was had by all.
Saturday March 24th 2012 ~ Tree Planting
Over 40 villagers of all ages turned up on a lovely sunny day to plant 100 trees donated by the Woodland trust at Shilbottle Community Hall on Saturday 24th March.
After only half an hour they had created a wildlife area with Birch, Rowan and Cherry before planting dog wood near the skate board park. These trees will be a lasting reminder of the Diamond Jubilee.
